RMS's 7th grade science club took 34 members to participate in Fernback museum's Urban Watch program. The students toured the city of Atlanta's only true forest. We were guided by volunteers of the program who taught us about various aspects of a forest; all related to our Ecology curriculum. We learned about the balance of an ecosystem and the impact invasive or non-native plants can have on the environment. We say a pileated woodpecker, the largest and rarest woodpecker in Georgia. Watching him was a thrilling experience. After the tour and lunch on the back patio of the museum, we pulled invasive species from part of the museum's grounds.

Like many other middle schools in Gwinnett County, Richards Middle is participating in Great Days of Service. We encourage parents to stop by our front office and DONATE items listed on the flyer below. All items collected will stay in our county to help these who are in need. Let's raise more donated items than any other middle school in Gwinnett!
Scoliosis screening will be on Tuesday, October 20th, during Connections class time. The screening is only for 6th and 8th graders. A parent letter was sent home with students on Tuesday, October 13th. The student needs to bring back the letter with a parent signature only if you do not want him or her to be screened. Thirty trained student nurses will be at our school on Tuesday to complete the screening. The screenings take place in our gym locker rooms and boys and girls are screened separately. We put dividers in the locker rooms to make the screening as private as possible. It is important for female students to wear a swimming suit, halter top, or sports bra under their clothing on the day of the screening. The parent letter we sent home is included below.
We are so excited! Our very own Mrs. Strong is a Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year finalist! Congratulations!
