RMS's 7th grade science club took 34 members to participate in Fernback museum's Urban Watch program. The students toured the city of Atlanta's only true forest. We were guided by volunteers of the program who taught us about various aspects of a forest; all related to our Ecology curriculum. We learned about the balance of an ecosystem and the impact invasive or non-native plants can have on the environment. We say a pileated woodpecker, the largest and rarest woodpecker in Georgia. Watching him was a thrilling experience. After the tour and lunch on the back patio of the museum, we pulled invasive species from part of the museum's grounds.
